The idea for Passing Notes to Strangers hatched during a talk I gave called cold email like Dave. Thirty minutes with me and a PowerPoint deck, to learn the basics I’d been using. That was back in April of 2021.
In April of 2022 I took the talk, along with some of the Q&A from my team, and turned it into one of my first blog posts.
Over the course of the following year, I wrote several posts that tied in with the topic, and the scaffolding for a book started to take shape.
You can revisit these posts in their primitive form (below), but at this point, just snag that book.
Some real bangers, right?
With a complete outline I could see where the gaps were and went to work filling them in. Eventually I had over 30,000 words about Passing Notes to Strangers, more than enough for a short book.
Edits, beta readers, more edits, design, more edits, and then the mind-numbing process of learning Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), Apple Books, and ACX (audio books).
Now it’s ready.
It’s not not Leo Tolstoy, but the ambition was to make something useful. I think I’ve done that much. Only time will tell if readers agree.
Which leads me to my second ask.
(Reminder, the first ask is to buy the book.)
The second ask is almost as easy. If you find the book useful, if you learn something, if you have a chuckle or an aha moment, please share it and hand out some gold stars on Amazon and Apple. That will help others find the book. And it will help a blogger and independent publisher (me) create more useful things in the future.
Thanks for reading, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming next week.
And you never know, it might be scaffolding for the next book.
